Wrote this one for you:

Slyly, softly, gloved footfalls
went up the staircase from the hall
the shadow slunk behind the door
watching her unlock the drawer
noting where she kept the key
knowing she would never see
thinking he was still outside
maybe blinded by her pride
(from her savings she could pay
to mend the pipes and save the day)

As he left he heard her cough
to rob her blind was not enough
he had tied her to a chair
beat her, gagged her, torn her hair
left her slumped before the grate
where grey fumes could seal her fate
as black clouds billowed through the room
birdsong reached him through the gloom
putting heaven in a rage
her canary in its cage
